

Henry Waldo Hitt Jr., age 93, died November 25, 2025, at St. Catherine's Village, Siena Center. He was born in Toccoa, Georgia on September 8, 1932, and was the son of Marguerite Groover Hitt and Henry Waldo Hitt Sr. He was a graduate of Bass High School in Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia where he played varsity football for 2 years.
He married Barbara Tankersley Hitt in 1957, and they lived in Georgia and Memphis, Tennessee, moving to McComb, Mississippi in 1979. He was Divisional Vice President of Associated Distributors of West Lumber Company in Atlanta, Executive Vice President of Croft Metals Inc., in McComb, Mississippi, and Vice President of National Accounts of Larson Manufacturing in Brookings, South Dakota. In 1986 he received the Award of Merit for the Manufacturer Marketing Executive of the Year from the National Home Center Industry.
He was a member of the Rotary Club in McRae, Georgia and in McComb Mississippi and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church wherever he lived and at Centenary he served on various lay leadership committees. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and the Wednesday/Saturday Men’s Coffee group. He served as a board member of McComb Interdenominational Care Association. He had a lifetime interest in fishing, hunting, tennis, golf and gardening.
Waldo was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Lewis Hitt, a nephew Leslie Hitt, a niece Julie Clifton Watson and a brother-in-law Ronald Clifton.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Hitt, and a son and daughter in law, Henry Waldo Hitt III and Natalie Brooks Hitt; four grandchildren, Harrison Waldo Hitt (Jena), Robert Brooks Hitt (Mollie) , Mary Elizabeth Olson (Logan), and William Cooper Hitt, Great Grand Children, Henry Douglas Hitt, Lewis Robert Hitt, and Collins Marie Olson, a sister Evelyn Hitt Clifton, a sister in law Susan Klima Hitt, a niece Beth Clifton Norton (Clark), nephew Robert Lewis Hitt Jr. and Reverend Joe Watson.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the loving and compassionate care given to Waldo and our family by the entire staff at St. Catherine’s Village Siena Center.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 10:00AM with a memorial service to follow at 11:00AM at Centenary United Methodist Church in McComb, Mississippi.
A family burial will be at the Ocilla, Georgia cemetery.
