James Alton Grice Jr., age 88, of Jackson, Mississippi departed this life on Monday, July 29, 2024 at St. Catherine's Nursing Home. He was born on March 18, 1936 in Whitfield, Mississippi to James A (Jack) Grice and Pauline Taliaferro Grice, their only child.
He grew up in Meridian, Mississippi where he attended public school and excelled in football, basketball and track. He later graduated from Meridian Junior College and continued his education at Harding College, Mississippi Southern University, University Center (Ole Miss) and Millsaps College. He was employed for over 42 years with the Mississippi Department of Transportation; completing his time of service as Chief Chemist of the Testing Division of the Central Lab in Jackson, Mississippi.
He was a member of the Church of Christ having made a profession of Faith at an early age.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Peggy Ponds Grice.

A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Home & Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, Mississippi 39157, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
