

Judge James Edmund “Ed” Kemp was born on April 2, 1925, in Morton, Mississippi. He served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, Judge Kemp attended law school at Mississippi College School of Law graduating with his LLB in 1953. He worked in the legal profession for 60 years, serving as Commissioner for Mississippi’s Worker’s Compensation Commission, Attorney for the State of Mississippi’s Insurance Department and as an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration.
In addition to his work in the legal field, Judge Kemp was also involved in his community, he was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for almost 60 years, was a member of the Level Woods Exchange Club, and was one of the founders and served as the first Superintendent for Hillcrest Christian School.
Judge Kemp is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Kemp, his sons Jim, Mike, and Doug, and his grandson Andrew. He was a good strong man with a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. He deeply loved his family and his country. We dearly loved him and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation for Mr. Kemp will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland from 1:00pm to 3:00pm with a service following at 3:00pm. Burial will be at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
