James Arthur Strickland, Sr. (Jamie), 62, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 11, 2022. Jamie was born on July 15, 1959 in Jackson, MS to Theodore Walter and Evelyn Mae Strickland. Jamie was a very adventurous and creative young man and learned early in life that building things with wood was his passion. He started working with a trim contractor in his late teens and came to be one of the most skillful trim carpenters in the Jackson area, building very ornate cabinets, island bars, mantles, etc. After years of working as a trim carpenter, he became interested in the dynamics of residential building, and over his career built some of the finest homes in the Madison, Ridgeland and Jackson area. He took every phase of building a home very seriously and was always so proud of how clean he kept his job site. His famous saying was “You have to make it look like someone loves it,” and he certainly did love it. When he was not working on the job site, he had a love for scuba diving and exploring God’s beautiful creation under the ocean. Over the years he was blessed to be able to dive with both his son Jamie, Jr. and daughter Tori. He enjoyed antiques and liked stopping at little shops along the path when he and the family were traveling. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them (usually on the job site!). He lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jamie is preceded by his father and mother, Theodore Walter and Evelyn Mae Strickland; brother, Theodore Walter Strickland, Jr.; and daughter, Tyler Thomas.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Angie Miller Strickland; daughters, Tori Strickland, Emiley Babb and Vicki Pruitt; son, Jamie Strickland (Jr.); sisters, Sheryl Rimmer (Steve) and Nancy Speed (Joe); nephew, Stephen Rimmer; niece, Ashley Rogowski (Frank) and numerous grandchildren.
The service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, MS at 11:00 am on Monday, May 16, 2022 with visitation one hour prior. There will be a visitation on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the Baptist Hospital ER, ICU and the 6th floor doctors and nurses as well as the Kindred Hospice group that took such excellent care of Jamie.
