Janice Elizabeth Curtis

Janice was born to the late Leo Dushane, Sr. and Margaret Navarre Dushane on October 2, 1937 in Monroe, Michigan. After her father's untimely death, she was adopted by Ezra and Lucy Peltier. She met the love of her life, Raymond Curtis, in September 1957 when he was stationed at the Army Nike Missile Battery in Monroe. They were married on July 4, 1958. As an Army couple, they lived in Monroe before being stationed in Okinawa, Japan and El Paso, Texas. After nine years of Army assignments, they moved to Raymond's hometown of Logsden, Oregon to begin their family. Their son Mark was born in 1967 and their daughter Theresa was born in 1969.

The young family lived in many places across the country, including Maine, Florida, South Carolina, and Mississippi, while Raymond worked for Georgia Pacific and in the sawmill industry and Janice took care of the home. They finally settled in Hattiesburg in 1978. Raymond passed on April 16, 1994, and Janice eventually moved to Ridgeland to be with her daughter and son-in-law and their growing family.

Janice will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with the Lord. Janice is survived by her son Mark Curtis and her daughter Theresa Abadie and son-in-law Greg Abadie; her grandchildren Amber Curtis, Gregory Abadie II, Bridget Abadie, Kathleen Abadie, and Lauren Abadie; and her sister Sally Tigner (Charles), her sisters-in-law Nancy Curtis and Margaret Patterson (Rocky), and her brothers-in-law Lyle Curtis (Kathie), and Bill Greene. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her parents, her brothers Leo Dushane, Jr., Philip Dushane, and Lloyd Peltier, and her sisters Bonnie Greene, Beatrice Dushane, Rosemary Dushane, and Theresa Dushane.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison, beginning with the Rosary at 9:30am, visitation at 10:00am, and the funeral Mass at 11:00am, with a reception following. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg at 3:00pm.
