Jo Ward Haynes went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2021. Mrs. Haynes was born on November 28, 1929 in Newton MS and grew up in Montrose MS. She went to East Central Community College and then the University of Mississippi.
It was at Ole Miss where she met the love of her life Percy Haynes. The couple married on
May 18, 1951 and later settled in Jackson, MS. She taught school at Jackson Public Schools and at McCluer Academy.
The couple were members of Alta Woods Methodist and later at St Marks Methodist Church in Brandon.
Mrs. Haynes loved to travel and took numerous trips with her family. One of her most memorable trips
was with her husband to Europe. She was also an avid sports fan. Her radio and TV were constantly
tuned to Ole Miss athletic events.
She is predeceased by her husband Percy Haynes and her parents, George and Eunice Ward. She leaves
behind her brother George Ward, Jr., her three daughters, Kim Carlisle (Frank), Holly Estes (Bee),
Hope Cox (Jim), seven grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
A private service for the family will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church at 400 Grants Ferry Road, Brandon, MS 39047.
