

John Baxter Burns, 86, passed away Monday January 16, 2017 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and Wednesday from 10:00am to 11:00am. Graveside services to be held at 11:00am also at Parkway Funeral Home and Cemetary, Ridgeland, MS.
Born May 28, 1930 in Jackson, MS to J.B. Burns, Jr. and Dimple McMullan Burns. He graduated from Central High School then earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at MS State College. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the Scabbard and Blade drill team.
He served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict stationed in Sculthorpe, England where he married Ramah Jean Crist. Upon his return, he joined the family business, Highway Materials Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ellen Treadway, his first wife, Ramah Crist and second wife, Martha Thomas Kabbes.
Survivors include his son, John Baxter Burns, II (Wanda), daughter, Beverly B. Bridges (Leon) and son, James Crist Burns (Teresa), four grandchildren, John Baxter Burns III (Ashton), Sidney Burns, Cris Elizabeth Burns, William E. Smith (Carrie Beth), 2 great grandchildren, and a niece and nephew.
