Kenneth Ray Purvis was born in Flora, MS on May 17, 1950, and died May 3, 2024, at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. He was the third in the line of eight children born to Mary Virginia Purvis and J. W. Purvis. Kenny was a great student and was always in the top of his class. He graduated from Raymond High School in 1968. Ken served in the Marine Corp and was a Vietnam veteran. It was there he received the Bronze Star Medal 'for courage, bold initiative and unwavering devotion to duty in the face of great personal danger. This was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corp and of the United States Naval Service.' On his return after service, Ken went to the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated amongst the top of his class. Kenny worked and retired from the Corp of Engineers in Vicksburg.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, and by brothers, Timothy, Keith, and Daniel and nephew Shawn Wright and niece Nicole Loomis. He is survived by his sisters Veronica Loomis (Joe), Rebecca Risher (Sidney), Naomi Barnette (Aubrey) and Phoeba Hodge (David). He is being missed by 15 nieces and nephews, 40 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nieces and nephews, many cousins, and many friends.
