L.C. was born October 19, 1949 in New Orleans, LA. He passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, following a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence F. Cheramie, Sr. and Elvera A. Cheramie, and his two brothers, Wayne Cheramie and Allan Cheramie. He is survived by his daughter, Channing Cheramie Farrell and son-in-law Jimmy Farrell, his two grandsons, Stone Switzer and Jax C. Farrell, his niece, Michelle Morales (Mike) and nephews, Al Cheramie (Vada), Bobby Cheramie (Gail), and Wayne Cheramie, Jr. (Nettie), along with many other family and friends.
LC was raised in the small fishing town of Lafitte, Louisiana, where through high school, he worked with his brothers on his Dad’s shrimping boat, which was the family’s business. After graduating high school, LC would go on to graduate with honors from Nichols State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. After graduation, he worked with Texaco Corp. in the real estate acquisition department and later opened up the fish market, where he sold fish retail as well as wholesale to all the Jackson area restaurants. Later, he would start in the real estate development business on his own, and eventually partner with Larry and Michael Johnson at Landmark Companies. Over his lifetime, he would go on to become one of the largest developers of real estate in our tri-county area. LC played a major role in the development of over 7,000 single family lots, built over 1,500 homes, and the development and construction of 7,000 apartments, all being located in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Over all of these years, LC developed countless business relationships and lasting friendships and was known and well respected by all who crossed his path.
Success as defined by LC: Success is defined by the point where preparation and opportunity meet. It is not the obstacles in front of you that hinders your success, but it is the obstacles behind you that will prevent you from becoming successful! If you prepare yourself with knowledge and discipline, doors to success will open for you….if you are not prepared, they will close on you. HOPE is not a strategy!!
Being from South Louisiana, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved nothing more than being in a deer stand, a duck blind, or in a fishing boat. LC traveled to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, and Argentina on many great hunting expeditions. He had fished for the most exotic fish in the Congo, the Nile River, and off the Florida Keys. He truly lived the life he loved.
Everywhere he went people were drawn to him. LC had a heart for people, and in return, people couldn’t help but love him. He impacted many lives along the way and will be missed by his family and all who were blessed to know him. He was a great man with a big heart that lived a BIG life. In the words of LC, it’s been a good run!!
We will miss him forever.
