Liary (Larry) McClellan passed away on Friday August 12th, 2022. He was born in Attala County MS to Kyle and Christine McClellan on January 24th 1937. He graduated from Sallis High School. In 1954 he joined the MIssissippi National Guard and served for 8 years.
He began his professional career in Jackson, MS with the John Morrell Meat Company in the trucking division. In 1965 after several customers had recommended him he was promoted to the sales division. Two years later he accepted a job offer in sales from Armour Food Company. After a short time he was promoted to the Dairy and Poultry Department manager and was later put in charge of purchasing all products except fresh meats. In 1979 Armour closed the Jackson branch house and changed the way they were distributing their products. He continued to work for Armour as a district manager until 1985 when he moved to their Egg Division. He worked as the National Sales Manager for Armour Egg Products until he retired in 2001.
Larry was a good, highly principled man. He dearly loved his family, especially his four grandchildren.
He was very proud of his big vegetable garden he had every year until his passing. He was very generous with the fruits of his labor. Any visit to his house included a guided tour of his garden. Along with his wife Ann, he was a member of the Mississippi Old Garden Rose Society. He spent many hours assisting Ann with the care of the roses at their Clinton, MS home.
Larry loved sports and passed that love on to his children. He took them to countless sporting events in the Jackson, MS area from semi-pro baseball to high school and college football. He was an avid fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. His love for Ole Miss sports began as a child in the 1940's listening to radio broadcasts of Ole Miss football from the family farm in Attala County.
A cradle Lutheran, Larry was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Sallis until 1964, Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson, MS from 1964 to 2010 when it closed. He was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church in Brandon, MS from 2010 until his passing.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Musselwhite McClellan daughter Beth McClellan Davis of Oxford, son Mike McClellan (Charlotte) of Madison. Four grandchildren, Tyler McClellan, Madeline Davis, Meredith McClellan, and Manning Davis. Sister-in-law, Joan Frazier McClellan and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Christine Dubard McClellan, two brothers, Franklin McClellan and Curtis McClellan, Sister Janie McClellan Buford, son-in-law Barry Williams, sister-in-law Judy Armstrong McClellan, brother-in-law Tommy Buford.
Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS on Monday August 15th from 5pm to 7pm and on Tuesday August 16th from 10am to 11am. Funeral services with follow at 11am. Graveside services will be held at 2pm at Musselwhite Cemetery on Highway 19 Kosciusko, MS.
