

Katherine Lucile (Cile) Shipp Steele, 83, of Jackson, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at The Arbor Nursing Home in Ridgeland, MS. She was born November 2, 1927 in Yazoo City, MS, and raised in the Midway Community near Benton. Cile was a school teacher for 23 years, a devoted mother for 59 years, and a loving wife for 61 years.
She graduated from The University of Mississippi in 1949, began teaching in the Lafayette County School System in 1950, and ended her teaching career at Jackson Academy in 1973. Following her career as a teacher, she served as a medical secretary for Dr. Frazier Ward until her retirement in 1993.
She is survived by her husband, James (Jimmy) T. Steele, two daughters, Cindy Barnett (Bill) and Danette Jones (Earle), both of Brandon, MS, and a granddaughter, Anna Lee (Kenny), of Byram, MS. Preceding her in death were her parents, Dan Hugh Shipp, Sr. and Lucile Elizabeth Gunn Shipp, and a brother, Dan Hugh Shipp, Jr.
Visitation hours will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, and funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 30. Visitation and the funeral services will be at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Highland Colony Parkway. Interment will follow at Natchez Trace Memorial Park in Ridgeland.
