

On April 26, 2012 Margaret Ann Lockett went home to be with the Lord after a ten year continuous battle with ovarian cancer. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm today and 1:30pm Saturday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday April 28, 2012 at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James F. “Jim” Lockett, three children Becky (Chris) Young of Oak Grove, MS, Mary (Brian) Burcham of Ridgeland, MS, and Dan (Ramona) Lockett of Oak Grove, MS, and six grandchildren - David and Sarah Young, Joshua and Abigail Burcham, Andrew and Hannah Lockett; brother Dixon Young of Burkville, AL, and sisters Jean Clark-Robinson of Saraland, AL, Nancy Gillis and Beverly Churchill of Starkville, MS.
Margaret was born April 29, 1943, to the late Lindsey Monroe Young and Gracie Lillian Gregg in Starkville, MS. She graduated from Starkville High School in 1961 and Mississippi State University in 1965.
Upon her marriage in 1965, she moved to Jackson and taught at several elementary schools in the Jackson Public Schools and at the Mississippi School for the Blind for a total of 33 years. . While being a full time teacher and the mother of three young children she received her Masters in Education degree from Mississippi College in 1975. She was recognized by MSB as Teacher of the Year in 2002.
She was an active member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church for 33 years. Her hobbies included reading, heirloom sewing, bird watching, and traveling. However, the true joy of her life was being with her grandchildren. After being diagnosed with cancer, she and her husband set out with the goal of seeing God’s beauty in much of Canada and every state in the US. She fully accomplished that goal in 2008.
She also wanted to thank Dr. James Moore and staff and Hospice Ministries staff for their service and care. Donations may be made to the building fund of Colonial Height Baptist Church, 444 Northpark Dr. Ridgeland MS 39157, or for ovarian cancer research at the American Cancer Society.
