
Mary Clare Hogg, 94, died February 23, 2016. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Richards Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date in New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Monday at the church.
Mary Clare was born on June 9. 1921. The daughter of the late Eola Coco Hogg and William Thomas Hogg, Sr. A graduate of Ursuline Convent High School, New Orleans, LA, 1937 and the School of Architecture Tulane University, 1941. She moved to Mobile, AL to work for the U.S. Core of Engineers during WWII. While in Mobile, she took a course in Structural Design which proved to be very helpful in future years as an Architect. Returning home to N.O. LA she joined the firm of Goldstein, Parham and Labouisse Architects from which she took a leave of absence for the summer of 1950 to attend the American School of Fine Arts at the Palace of Fontainebleau, France where she was awarded second place in design at the end of the term. In 1956 she moved to New York City where after a short employment with Phillip Ives she joined the firm of TAMS (Tippetts, Abbett, McCarthy, and Stratton) Engineers and Architects. While there the most outstanding project was the design of Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda, BVI which involved not only design but the selection of all furnishings, art work, tableware and uniforms for the service personnel. In 1977 Mary joined the firm of HBE in St. Louis, MO. While there her design work revolved around hospitals, chapels, small airports and restoration and design of hotels for the companies hotel chain Adam Mark, of which included the one in St. Louis near the famous arch. Mary retired in 1995 at the age of 75.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William F. Hogg, Jr. and Edward P. Hogg.
She is survived by her sister, Eola Hogg; nieces, Margie Hunter (Dave), Liefy Smith (George), Ginger Hogg, Charlotte Nix (Mike), Beth Beck (Damon) and Bunny Bordelon; Nephews, Edward Hogg (Harriet) and Robert Hogg MD; 9 great nieces; 7 great nephews; 5 great great nieces and 4 great great nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and administration of St. Catherine’s Village Sienna Center, Covenant Caregivers and Gentiva Hospice, especially Kelly Ingebretsen for their kindness and attentive care during her illness; to her weekday sitter Laura Patterson for five years of loving care; and to her weekend sitters Doris Porter and Burnell Greer.
