Mike was born on May 2, 1967 to John Ivy Galatas, Jr. and Nancy Browning Galatas in Greenville, Mississippi. He graduated from Washington School in Greenville, Class of 1985. Mike attended Mississippi State University where he played football and was president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He met some of his best friends in Pike and spent weekends with many of them at Gleason Fest each summer. He graduated in 1989 with a degree in communication.
Mike married Pam Phillips Galatas in 1991. The couple lived in Franklin, Tennessee where they made close friends and had both girls before moving to Madison, Mississippi in 2001 to be closer to family and Mississippi State sports.
Mike worked as a pharmaceutical representative for Novartis, primarily in the Jackson area, for over 25 years.
Mike was also an active member of Madison United Methodist Church, where he sang in the congregational choir, led the youth praise band, and served the Lord with all his heart. He loved being a mentor for confirmation classes.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, John Ivy Galatas, Jr. (Greenville, MS); his father-in-law, Charles Eugene “Gene” Phillips (Madison, MS); and brother-in-law, Edwin Randolph “Randy” Noble (Greenville, MS). Survivors include his wife, Pam Phillips Galatas and daughters Sawyer Leigh Galatas and Georgia Claire Galatas (Madison, MS); mother, Nancy Browning Galatas (Greenville, MS); mother-in-law, Barbara Henderson Phillips (Madison, MS); sister Marlee Galatas Gardner and husband Phil Gardner (Havelock, NC); brother John Ivy Galatas, III and wife Karen Galatas (Long Beach, MS) and sister Jeana Galatas Noble (Oxford, MS). Mike is also survived by countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom are better people and Rook players because of him.
We will always cherish how he taught us to love righteously, forgive faithfully, speak truthfully and laugh frequently.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations in Mike’s memory may be given to Madison United Methodist Church in Madison, MS.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8
