

Miriam Hendrix Newman, 78, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at her home in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25 at First Presbyterian Church. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 also at First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow later Wednesday afternoon in the family plot at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City. She was born in Yazoo City on December 12, 1935 to Thomas Henry Hendrix and Margaret Seward Hendrix. She grew up in Yazoo City and graduated from Yazoo High School, then attended Gulf Park College and graduated from the University of Mississippi. Miriam married Jim Newman on August 25, 1955. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women in the Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with her sister, Jeannette Perry, and her friends. She was a member of the Casual Luncheon Club and the Demitasse Luncheon Club. Miriam is survived by her husband, James Walter Newman III; her sister, Jeannette Hendrix Perry; three daughters, Margaret Louise Newman, Miriam Newman Evans (Fred), and Mary Katherine Newman Thompson (Lynne); one son, James Walter Newman IV (Deborah); and nine grandchildren: JW (Elizabeth), Zach, and Brock Newman; and Dailey (Caroline), Newman, Cole, Katy, Natasha, and Alex Evans. Her grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. Memorials may be sent to Palmer Home, French Camp Academy, First Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice.
