A visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home between the hours of 5 and 9 PM
After her father’s death, she went to work at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company in February of 1951 at the age of 18 to help support her family. Nelson had a long and distinguished career with Southern Farm Bureau. She started her career as secretary to the executive vice president and she retired 45 years later as vice president, executive marketing administration. She traveled the country and the world, leaving an indelible impression on everyone she met.
It takes a lot of love and perseverance to raise a child as a single parent. Nelson did that and more in spades and leaves a legacy of love and kindness that will never be forgotten.
Nelson is survived by her daughter Shannon McDonald, her favorite son-in-law Paul McDonald, her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Kate Lovett, one nephew, two nieces, many great-nieces, great-nephews, and children that chose her as their “Oma.” The Nelson has left the building, but she survives in spirit and in the mark she has left on the lives of all those she loved. As one of her great-godchildren remarked, “It is ok, Heaven is a fun place.”
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Wisteria Gardens and Trinity Rehab for their kindness and compassion. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
