

Nancy (Ms. Black) was born January 3, 1932, in Durant, Ms. to the late Shack Williams and Nettie Ingold Williams. In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jay) W. Black, Sr. of West, Ms., also her four sisters: Doris Dorris, Virginia Heflin, Martha Cowsert, Ella Mae Kuykendall and one brother: Shack Williams.
Nancy (Ms. Black) is survived by her children: two sons: James W. Black, Jr. (Patricia) Raymond, MS., Thomas (Tom) F. Black (Rachel) Madison, MS., one daughter: Emily Beacham (Greg) St. Marys, GA.. Grandchildren: Bryan Black (Ashley), Damien Milner (Liz), Hunter Black, Shelby Reeves (Trae). Great grandchildren: Rivers Black, Marley Milner, Charlie Brooke Reeves, and Hattie Grace Reeves. Extended family: Carly Robinson and her two children: Wyatt Johnston and Jaxson Peusch. Several nieces and nephews.
Nancy (Ms. Black) was a graduate of Jackson Beauty Academy and Holmes Community College as a master cosmetologist and a licensed instructor of cosmetology. She worked as an operator for Earle’s Coiffures Salon for seven years. She was salon manager/supervisor for J.C. Penney’s Salon for five years before going into business for herself as owner/ operator of Nancy Black’s Beauty Salon for 17 years. After closing her shop she then began teaching at Shirley Little’s School of Cosmetology. She then started teaching at the college that she graduated from, Holmes Community College, Goodman, Ms., Nancy (Ms. Black) led many of her students to Christ. She liked to be called Ms. Black. She never walked or talked anyway she did not want someone to follow. She was faithful and obedient to God, her Father.
Nancy (Ms. Black) was a Sunday school teacher for 39 years before joining First Baptist Church of Jackson in 1981, where she was a very active member in the Singles Again Ministry where she taught for several years and participated in divorce recovery workshops and seminars as a group leader for ten years. She also took part in the formation of the Grief Recovery and support group. She taught Sunday School to the home bound, and joined the Intercessory Prayer Group. She also served as a Sanctuary Parlor hostess one Sunday each month and as a shepherd in the Sunday School class. She LOVED her Church, if the doors were open she was there, On Mondays she worked the ticket booth for the Men’s Luncheon, on Tuesdays she worked the ticket booth for the Ladies Luncheon, and on Wednesday nights she worked the ticket booth. She conducted herself as Christian in all walks of life. She was truly able to say: “It is well with my soul, it is well with my soul.” Thank you God, my Father. She was written up in Ministry Spotlight which she was very proud of. She ALWAYS taught Education and Salvation to her children, that was the most important thing that she wanted for her children and grandchildren.

Nancy (Ms. Black) funeral service will be a Graveside Service at Mizpah Cemetery, Durant, Ms., on Wednesday, March 25,2026 at 2:30 pm. Tom Washburn, First Baptist Church of Jackson, officiant.
