Nellie Dennis Brooks

Nellie (known as Nell) was born in Laurel Hill community near Edinburg, Mississippi, on September 16, 1915. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Brooks, daughter, Jannie Belle Bridges (Gran Gran), son-in-law, Chuck Bridges (Chuck Daddy), mother, Jannie Stewart Dennis, step-mother, Sadie Lee Dennis (Mama Dennis), father, Rev. Frank Dennis (Papa Dennis), sisters, Zella (Dennie) Smith, Nettie Breland, Kate (Nora) Blaugh, and her brothers, Frank Dennis, Jim Dennis, Harvey Dennis, Walter Dennis and Roger Dennis.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her grandchildren, Becky (Rocky) Meadows and David (Beverly) Bridges, great-grandchildren, Ashley (Byron) Allred, Amber (Brandon) Synesael, Adrienne and Brooke Bridges, and great-great grandchildren, Anna Katie, Lainey Belle, Gabby Claire and Brooks. She is also survived by one sister, Naomi (Polly) Dennis.

She was an active member of FBC Florence until she moved to Villa South Assisted Living about 5 years ago. She was one month and 10 days from turning 100 years old. Despite her age, failing eyesight and poor hearing, she could be regularly seen walking the halls and visiting other residents at the facility.

We will miss our visits with Mamaw and hearing her stories and advice but we look forward to passing along her wisdom to future generations. We will make sure they know how great she was and that her memory will live on in all of our hearts.

Visitation and the service will be at FBC Florence on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 1 p.m.
