Perry Nations, of Madison, MS, passed away on August 27, 2022 at the age of 84. Perry was born in Jackson, MS on September 18, 1937. After graduating from Central High School, he attended Mississippi State University and Millsaps College. As a photographer for the local Jackson paper, Perry’s early career had many interesting turns as he photographed the civil rights movement and attended the funeral of John F Kennedy. He held the position of Director of Tourism for the former A&I Board and also managed a gubernatorial campaign. The bulk of his career was spent serving the construction industry in roles with Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Associated General Contractors (AGC) and Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF). Perry also served in various roles within the workers compensation industry including CompTrust AGC and the Mississippi Workers Compensation Educational Association. He had a passion to see a younger generation make the crafts and trades a vocation of choice. He was instrumental in getting legislation passed which ultimately led to the formation of MCEF which continues to carry out that goal today.
Perry enjoyed a love for the outdoors, mainly hunting and fishing in his younger years. But through all of his work and other activities, his passion in life became watching his grandchildren thrive and succeed in their endeavor of choice. Nothing made him happier than sharing pictures or stories in which his grandchildren were enjoying their interests.
Perry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Nations, daughters Anna Nations, Dawn Brewer (Larry), and Tammy Scoville (Curt), sons Scott Rhodes (Nene) and Lee Nations (Kristen). He is also survived by his sister Ann Seal (Dan) and seven wonderful grandchildren, Reagan Himes (Garrett), Hayden Scoville (Kelsey), Matt Scoville, Sam Rhodes, Kennedy Nations, Graham Scoville and Merritt Nations. He is proceeded in death by his parents Howard and Mildred Nations, and his sister Millie Sellars.
