

Quentin Stringer of Jackson, 96, died at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center on July 26. Visitation will be on Monday, July 28, from 12:00 to 1:00 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway, followed by a graveside service in the Mausoleum at 1:00 PM.
Mr. Stringer was born in 1918 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater of operations from 1942 until 1946, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. In 1952, he earned his law degree from the Jackson School of Law. He was employed by the Mississippi State and Federal governments from 1947 until 1970.
In 1950, he married the former Maud Houston. He was an avid reader and loved poetry. He believed strongly in education, and he and Maud gave financial assistance to numerous students.
From 1970 until 1990, he was President of Builders Marble, Inc. He was a founder of the Cultured Marble Association of the South, a regional trade organization, and served as its president. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Cultured Marble Institute.
He was a member of Meadowbrook Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Mississippi State Bar, the Hinds County Bar, the American Right-of-Way Association, and the Intercollegiate Law Fraternity. He also was a board member of the Mississippi State University Hinds County Alumni Association.
In the later years of his life, he received excellent care from his devoted caregivers, Shirley Gilbert and Brenda Hood.
He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by Phil and Jan Chisolm of Clinton, whom he and Maud looked upon as their children. He is also survived by a brother, H. R. Stringer, Jr., of Brookhaven, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
