After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Warrior Wayne Gilbert, 65, “DECLARED VICTORY” over Melanoma Cancer, Colon Cancer, Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis Cancer, and Death, through his faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary on Oct. 15, 2014 at 7:46 AM.
Wayne Glass-Gilbert was given the gift of life by Nan Rhea Glass and Billy James Glass in Shreveport, LA on September 14, 1949.
Wayne spent his youth and high school years in Hattiesburg, MS. He received a BS Degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern MS, and his MBA from Wright State University. He spent a long career in the computer business, ending with a 21 year tenure at Venture Technologies where he excelled the company in many different areas as VP of Professional Services, and was key in winning the Beacon Award out of 20,000 businesses around the globe at Lotus Sphere in 2003.
Wayne loved life and found it an exciting adventure, but most of all, he loved his Lord and the absolute love of his life, Nancy London Gilbert. Falling head over heels in love in April 1985, and marrying only seven months later, he found his true spiritual soulmate for life. He referred to his beloved Nancy and their happy marriage as like: “The Notebook Couple, and believed he was married to the best cheerleader of life in the world. She was devotedly at his side cheering him on in the good and bad times of life.
Wayne was a Valiant Cancer Warrior. His gift of faith sustained him through some of the hardest treatments, and deepest sufferings of his life. He loved to quote Jimmy Buffett's take on life: "Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, but it's been a good life all the way" - realizing that the bitter and the sweet of life always come side by side. You don't get the one without the other.
It was impossible to be around him without laughing and receiving joy. He was a very generous person who gave to the poor, the imprisoned, the sick, the homeless, the widow, and the hurting in every way that came across his path. He will be remembered as a laid back, humble man with a great smile, and quick wit who feared and revered His Lord, and handled the heartaches and rejections of life with much grace and forgiveness.
He leaves to grieve, cherish, and miss him his deeply devoted and loving wife of 29 years, Nancy London Gilbert, his beloved stepson, Kevin London and wife Christine, granddaughter Hannah, and great grandson, Hunter Cole. Brother, David Glass and wife Paula, special cousins; Cynthia Glass Dryden, Leta Ann Glass Womack, and Vickie Meaders; numerous nieces, nephews, many very special friends, classmates, and hundreds of prayer warriors who prayed for him constantly - none more faithful than “Team Wayne”.
Visitation will be at Parkway Funeral Home - formerly Wright and Ferguson, Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland MS, on Sat. Oct. 18, at 1 PM, with a Celebration of New Life Service following at 2 PM in the Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Hollis McGehee.
