

Wallace Annel Johnson, 86, of Ridgeland Mississippi went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2016. Wallace was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on October 29, 1929 to Izola and Leon Johnson. Wallace married his beloved wife, Willie D. Leach, and together they raised three children. Wallace is survived by his son, Jon-David Johnson and wife, Brenda; daughter, Heather Renee Johnson; three grandchildren, Darryl Simon, Nicole Vicknair, Zoie Johnson; and two great grandchildren, Trace McCardle and Kaiden Hutchins; brother, Bo Johnson; and son-in-law, Joey Vicknair. Wallace was predeceased by his wife, Willie D. Leach; and daughter Alisa Dawn Johnson Vicknair.
Wallace was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was an Army veteran of the Korean war with the rank of Sergeant first class; during his enlistment he was a tank instructor at the Armored Force School in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Wallace raised his family in the Leavell Woods community of Jackson and worked as a mechanical drawing and woodworking instructor at Bailey Jr. High School for over thirty years. Wallace volunteered for many years with the Leavell Woods Exchange Club of Jackson and was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jackson. After the passing of his wife, Wallace moved to Chateau Ridgeland in Ridgeland, MS. Here he made many wonderful friends and was very active within this community, he loved to play checkers and was a true expert at the game. Wallace always wanted to be involved, he enjoyed interacting with the community and staff, and doing what he could to help his friends and neighbors.
Wallace was a hard working Christian man, a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will truly be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, on Monday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m. Visitation for Wallace A. Johnson will be held at 2:00 p.m. immediately prior to the service.
