William G. “Bill” Crook, Jr., 84, left for heaven in sleep early Monday morning, January 5, 2015 at his home in Madison. Visitation will be 9:30 - 11 am with chapel services to follow at 11 am Friday, January 9th at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland.
Bill was a native of Jackson, MS. He was a Life Scout, a graduate of Central High School and Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison and a former member of Alta Woods Baptist Church. Bill ministered to many bereaving families as a funeral director at Wright & Ferguson for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Cornett Crook, a former Hinds Community College nursing instructor; sons, Mark (Gluckstadt, MS), Mike and his wife Patty and their son Timothy and his daughter, Kim Ainsworth with her husband Danny, and their daughter Rhea, all of Madison; and a sister, Ethel White and her husband Paul of Jackson. He enjoyed his extended family of sisters- and brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William G. Crook, Sr. & Susan Ethel Thornton.
Bill cherished his lifelong friendships. He served our nation as a Navy Medic during the Korean War. He met his wife of 56 years, Sandy, a nursing student, while at mortician school in Cincinnati, Ohio. He always loved working in his yard and watching birds at his window, and longed to do so even after his health prevented him. He enjoyed listening to church services when he was no longer able to join in the company of his Sunday school.
Bill's family extends its deepest thanks to Senior Home Care and three very special ladies who ministered to him in his final years: Dee Dee Oliver, Lashonda Robinson and Mary Luckett. These sitters hold a dear place in our hearts.
Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
