

Joseph Lee “Joe” Cockram, 65, of Ridgeway, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Salem VA. Medical Center, in Salem, VA., he was born in Wilmington Delaware, on May 19, 1945 to the late Posey Lee Cockram and Virginia Cooper Cockram. He served in the United States Army. He retired after seventeen years of service with DuPont and then after retirement was self employed as Flea Market enthusiast. He was Past Director of the Ridgeway Jaycees, Past Lieutenant of the Ridgeway District Rescue Squad and Past member of the Ridgeway Fire Department, Life member of the National Rifle Association and a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Young Cockram, two sons, William “Billy” Cockram and Charles “Chuck” Cockram.
Surviving are one daughter, Tonya Rea of Spencer and five grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway with Kenny McFarland officiating. Flag presentation will be performed by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6-7p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service of Ridgeway and other times at the home of the daughter Tonya Rea, at 639 Log Manor Road, Spencer, VA.
