

Thomas Lee McCollum, Sr, 72, of 718 Windsor Lane, Martinsville, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Salem VA Medical Center. He was born in Winston Salem on August 21, 1939 to the late Bryon Thomas McCollum and Dorothy Moore McCollum Johnston. He was honorable discharged after eleven years in the United States Navy and completed a Torpedo Indoctrination Course from U.S. Fleet Anti-Submarine War Fare School.
He was retired after forty three years working with both Stone Container in San Jose, California and later with Kobe Copper in Madison, NC. During his forty three years of service, Thomas was recognized for never missing an entire day in this working career. Thomas enjoyed fishing with his uncle Robert Moore and enjoyed watching all types of sports on television. Thomas was of the Methodist Faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, Richard C. Johnston and one sister, Ann J. Saunders.
Surviving are his ex-wife, friend and caregiver, Sari McCollum of Martinsville, one daughter, Dara Maroon of Martinsville, two sons, Thomas Lee McCollum, Jr., of Richmond, and Wes McCollum of Oregon, one brother, Richard C. “Dick” Johnston of High Point, NC.,six grandchildren, Hailey McCollum, Abby McCollum, Cody Mullins, Cassandra Maroon, T.J. McCollum and Erica McCollum, one aunt, Nancy McCreary of Pinnacle, NC, one uncle, Robert Moore, of Winston Salem, NC, four cousins, Ruby Moser and Mary Baker Finney both of Winston Salem, NC., Patty Hill and her husband David of Wilmington, NC., and Mike McCollum and wife Susie of Winston Salem, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial services will be held at a later date.
