Catherine Patricia Sullivan (Pat) born December 5, 1927, in Los Angeles, CA to Raymond James and Mildred Sullivan. Pat went to heaven on May 24, 2023, at 3:00 pm from at UC Health Memorial in Colorado Springs, CO. Pat was married to Raymond Harry Kunz May 17, 1946. They were married for 68 years before his death January 16, 2015.
Pat was 19 when their first baby, James, was born in 1947. Their first house was in Buena Park, CA., which is where their second baby, Kathleen, was born in 1949. They moved to Pomona in 1951 and helped take care of her sister’s two daughters. She was caring for 4 kids under the age of 6. In 1954 a third child, Dennis (now deceased), was born. After Ray was transferred to Riverside in 1955, Pat became involve in scouts and PTA. In 1961 a fourth son, Raymond Kunz, Jr., was born.
Pat loved the Lord and being a mother! In her spare time of not being involved with her kids and church, Pat enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, camping, reading, bowling, and golfing. Once grandbabies began arriving, she helped where she could in caring after them, cooking and playing games and, of course, listening to their stories. After the kids were grown, they had a travel trailer and camped and explored the western states.
In the early 1990’s they moved to Dayton, Nevada to help her youngest son with his two boys. They lived in Dayton until Ray started having weakness in his legs and slurring speech at times. The closest doctors were in Reno and it was hard at times to find rides there. After they son, Dennis passed in 2014, they moved back down to Southern California. Ray was diagnosed with ALS, Pat became primary caretaker. When Ray passed in January 2015, she moved into Kathy and Bob’s home. She found it hard for her to now be dependent on someone else.
Pat was independent, confident, smart and witty. After her body began failing, she kept her sense of humor and love of life. It’s not a coincidence that she went to the hospital on Mother’s Day and that when lightning and a roll of thunder opened the skies ten days later, she ascended to Heaven.
Pat was also preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mildred Sullivan, of California, a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Rae Sullivan, of California and a brother, James Sullivan, of Georgia. Son, Dennis Raymond Kunz, of Nevada; grandson, Hunter Baugher of California and granddaughter, Raven Kunz of Pennsylvania.
Pat is survived by her son Jim Kunz and wife, Terri, from Texas. Her daughter Kathy Schroeder and husband, Bob, from Colorado. And son Ray Kunz, Jr. and wife, Barbara, from California. She survived by ten grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandsons! As well as countless nieces and nephews.
Pat’s wishes are that everyone CELEBRATE her life, share humorous stories, smile, love deeply and, always, to try to make others laugh! Catherine Patricia Sullivan (Pat) born December 5, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA to Raymond James and Mildred Sulliva
