Dear Father,

With a heavy heart, I composed this letter, which ranks as the second most challenging parting note in my 54 years of existence. I express my gratitude for your presence in my life over the past 42 years and for imparting to me the significance of love and familial devotion. Your influence has been a genuine source of inspiration, and I take immense pride in calling you, my father.

I extend my appreciation for our shared experiences during significant holidays, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas. The memories of your Thanksgiving dinner prayer, commencing with expressions of gratitude and reflection, remain etched in my mind. Likewise, our festive Christmas celebrations, characterized by the exchange of gifts, cheerful gatherings, and heartfelt camaraderie, are cherished. Initially involving only seven family members in the early 1980s, our family has now expanded to over 40 individuals. Your acceptance into my mother's life and your embrace of us as your own constitute acts of selflessness for which I am deeply thankful. The prospect of navigating life without your presence, particularly during Thanksgiving and Christmas, is daunting. While our family continues to evolve, there is uncertainty regarding the preservation of our cherished traditions as we adapt to this significant change.

Hold a place for us, dear father, as we find our way. Meanwhile, please continue to watch over both our mother and the family. My affection for you knows no bounds, and I am truly grateful for the person you were. "Thanks, Dave!"
