Gil, 
 I was Gilbert’s assistant in Premier Meat for many years. He was a very kind person, he said I was like a sister to him. That made me special. I was invited to his wedding with Letty in Las Vegas, a very special day for both. 
Gil, I’m sorry for not keeping in touch, this is so Surreal it’s like a bad dream. When I heard you were sick, I can’t believe it. Why you, it’s not fair. You always had a smile in your face.  You loved your kids, you were very with Letty. I will always have you in my heart. I great mentor. I great big brother.

Gilbert was the king of Vegas.  Anything to do with Vegas, I would go to Gilbert.  Best restaurant? Always would come back with the top two or three he liked, and always mentioned the Barrymore, it was one of his favorites, and became one of mine. 

It was a classic old-school hidden gem, a speak easy feel, with great service and amazing food.   

The other day, I was trying to get a reservation for a friend who was visiting Vegas, and when I looked up their website, it said "Permanently Closed"

That was a sad day for me.  The Barrymore was that hidden treasure in Vegas, but more than that it was a representation of Gilbert, who was a hidden treasure; soft spoken, kind, and friendly. A  happy guy who loved to trade stories and memories about our business, the business he loved.  

REST IN PEACE GIBERT.  We all miss you.

Just like Gilbert, I married into the Gutierrez family. I met Gilbert and Emma in 1990.  I have always admired him for taking time to have genuine conversations with our ex-mother-in-law. I would often see him in that dining table in Rowland Heights and just having nice talks with our ex-mother-in-law. It’s rare to see young people do that, but he did. He was very respectful to everyone. He made me feel welcomed to the family! Truly an awesome person. I have only good memories of Gilbert. He was good people. May the Good Lord have him in His Holy Glory! My sincere condolences to his family. God bless. 

Gilbert one of the best guys i had the honor of knowing. I have known him since he worked as a driver at allen prime meats about thirty years always stayed in touch and was a genuine person always greeted me with a smile and memories of the time we first met. Our sincerest condolences of the passing of your father/husband. He was a very special man, and he will be missed by many. Sending prayers to you and  your family. A little prayer of comfort. You hold time within your hands and see it all,from beginning to end. Please keep and carry these precious people in their sadness and loss. Cover them with your great wings of love,give their weary hearts rest and their minds sound sleep. Lord, left their eyes  so that they may catch a glimpse of eternity, and  be comforted by the promise of heaven. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus  Christ .  Amen

Gilbert, you were a great person. It was always a pleasure to be able to talk to you.  You always had a joke to say and always had a way to lift my spirit. You had a big heart. 
You will be missed. Heaven has gained an angel. 

Medina Boys:
Boys I know it's not easy to reconcile things right now.  Losing your father, an anchor in your life, has got to be the hardest thing you've dealt with in your young lives.  I can't help but to think that the reason Gilbert was so tough on you growing up was to prepare you for this day.  He was tough but he was loyal and I  don't know any other father that loves his kids more than your father loved you.  You were his pride and joy, and everything he did was with your interests at heart.  Go take life by the balls and make your dad proud.  You know he'll be watching!

Letty:
I've never seen Gilbert more happy than when he had you by his side:  He was like a young teenager in love.  It was actually shocking how fast he changed his toon from losing faith that he would ever find love again, to being head over heals.  I'm so happy that Gilbert found you but I'm also sad that it lasted such a short time.  

We pray that god will give you the strength to overcome the pain you must feel right now.  Lisette and I will always be here for you.

Gilbert:
I enjoyed our talks, dinners and drinks together.  You were the ultimate compadre, big brother and role model.  Although you introduced me to the finer things in life I truly admired you more  for your work ethic and your commitment to your family.  I'm a better man because Gilbert Medina was in my life.  I will miss you Gil, but remain hopeful that one day we'll once again enjoy a glass of scotch and a cigar together.  I love you brother!

My relationship with Gilbert was as his boss and as a friend.  I loved his passion in his professional life and also in his personal life. He would do whatever it took to make his customers happy and would do whatever he could to make it happen.  He was all about family and cooking. We were invited many times to experience his culinary talents and never made it and I truly regret it. I will never forget the trip Gil and I took to the town of Tequila it was a great trip with fond memories.
He will be truly missed.

My cousin Gilbert for a short of time to be with you, but God saw that he needed him in heaven he knew that his son was suffering at lot . So he took him to paradise. He may not be with you here in earth ,
But he surely is in paradise.

Kevin & I are praying for Lety & all Gil’s Family & have you in our prayers throughout the day.  We had witnessed what a great Husband he was to our great friend Lety & send out condolences to the entire Medina Family & to those that knew & loved him. We are saddened for your loss. Please know you carry a special place in our hearts. 

Countless memories of my brother Gil. Starting with meeting him as a little league parent. I was blessed to have drafted his son Aaron while I managed/coached my son Michael’s team. Gil was very knowledgeable in the game of baseball so he helped at our team practices, He was very proud of Julian and Aaron (all of his sons). Our oldest sons Brandon & Julian also played together and competed in the same LL. This is where we formed our bond, via baseball and our sons. Often talking about coaching styles, players and of course our L.A. Dodgers! Even after our sons were done with LL, we kept in touch. 
My favorite memories are attending Dodger games together and riding over to Pomona Fairgrounds to check on his race horses. Or when he invited me to join him and his parents to ride out to Del Mar to watch one of his horses run / compete.  We spent all day together riding from Alta Loma to Del Mar, grabbing dinner with his parents after the races and getting back home 12 hours later. An opportunity to get to know my brother better, as we listened to his parents stories. Of course we were both very busy working and providing for our sons / Familia’s so we didn’t see each other often, but we were always a phone call or text message away! A couple of Latino men with humble beginnings who formed almost an instant bond of mutual respect as hard working dads and husbands, as leaders in our community. I know you’re the big Dodger up in the Sky! Probably enjoying the news on signing Trevor Bauer’s with Tommy Lasorda! Thank God you fought hard to be here to enjoy and love your 1st Grandchild, while also watching our Dodgers win another World Series! RIP brother Gil! My deepest condolences to Lety, your parents, your sons, grandson and family. You will be missed. I’m so thankful the good Lord allowed us to spend quality time together enjoying lunch and enjoying our time together at your home while you battled. Until we meet again with the Big Dodger in the Sky! 💙🙏🏽🕺⚾️🍻🐎💪🏽💙

Lety and family, 
I am truly sorry for your loss. Gil was a beautiful kind soul, I will remember him by being such a kind hearted person always putting others  first. He will be dearly missed. 

So many memories , you or not just my uncle my cousin you were like a big brother to me and you know that. Thank you for always being here for me, telling me off sometimes telling me life was too short and to live life to the fullest! I still have the last text messages from you from this January. Thank you for loving me so much like a sister, thank you for hearing me cry, laugh. I miss you so much Gilbert.  Until we see each other in heaven,  please watch over me brother.  I know you are not in pain anymore and I’m so happy I was able to fly and see you when I do. My heart will never be the same, my heart is in pain. We lost such a great man.                                               

Gil was an amazing person. Full of knowledge and lots of stories we would enjoy hearing. Gil was our neighbor for 15 yrs. he would  always stop his car to say hi when he would see us outside.  This block will never be the same without you Gil. You are greatly missed Gil. RIP. From The Luna Family

although i did not have the opportunity to get to know him better, what will stay with me about Gil is a small image i noticed in his home. i believe it was in the living room (at least at the time of my visit) where i saw an old photo of a tiny, humble house. i think it was Tía Lety who told me it was his parents’ home in mexico before they came to the states. im actually terrible at remembering details, so forgive me if any of that information is incorrect, but i do remember feeling so impressed by the idea behind that image. with that single photo, i got a sense of the kind of person he was. yes he was accomplished, yet he didn’t forget where he came from; in fact, he honored it in his home.  i found it so beautiful, powerful, and exemplary. i’ll also never forget his generosity, hospitality, and excellent taste in food.  may he rest in peace. 

Gil was a good friend and mentor.  My fondest memories with Gil are from during our baseball days on the Mets; he and I would always sit out a few innings out on the bench, sharing life stories and talking about the future over a cup of sangria.  We spent time in the dugout not because we lacked skill on the field (at least that's how I remember it), but because we enjoyed each other's company.  Gil was proud of our little group and always introduced me to his family and friends in a positive light; he made me feel proud and gave me confidence.  Gil had a positive impact on all of us and will be missed deeply. 

Matthew 11:28 come unto me, ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Cousin Gilbert you may not be here in earth anymore but you are in paradise I will miss you so dearly, but we will meet again in the eternity life.
And I’ll pray for your wife and family so that God almighty will send you’ll strength .
