GREGORY PETER SCHANZ, 75, born June 18, 1941 in Riverside, CA, died August 14, 2016. He lived his entire life in Riverside with a second home in Idyllwild, CA. Greg graduated Poly HS in 1959 and attended RCC and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where he continued to play both football and baseball. Graduating with a BS in Education, he began his career as a teacher and coach at Rubidoux HS for 10 years. Moving to teach at John W North HS in Riverside, Greg continued to coach football and baseball for the next 25 years and retired in 2000. Outside of teaching, Greg enjoyed raising his horses and dogs, collecting art, spending time with his grandkids, and attending all of their activities. Greg was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Schanz; his father, Alfred Schanz; and mother, Mildred Schanz. He is survived by his sister, Gretchen Olson; son, Scott Schanz; daughter, Suzanne Keeler, and four grandchildren: Emily, Kaizen, Katie, and Kana. A memorial service and an immediate reception to follow will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016, at 11 AM at The Grove Community Church, 19900 Grove Community Drive, Riverside, CA.
