Gwen is survived by her three children and their spouses – Scott (AJ) Herbert, Lyle (Rene) Herbert, and Jetta (Andy) Hice. She is also survived by four grandchildren – Trista Gemme, Eric Herbert, Lauren Hice, and Kelly DeFord – as well as four great-grandchildren (with one more on the way!). In addition, she is survived by her step-son Terry (Patricia) Little, their two children Bruce and Kathrine, and their two grandchildren. Also surviving are her three siblings – Jeanne Schultz, Earle (Marie) Walker, and Jay (Rita) Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle J. Herbert, who died in August 1994 after 48 years of marriage.
Gwen spent her youth in Dallas, Texas and Little Rock, Arkansas and, at the age of 23, joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. She was ultimately stationed in San Francisco, where she met her future husband, Lyle J. Herbert. They were married on January 23, 1946 in San Francisco. Lyle and Gwen settled in his home state of Michigan, but moved to Riverside, California in October 1961, where they remained.
Gwen will be remembered for her laughter, her “straight talk”, and her love of dancing. She was a fun gal and would want us to move forward enjoying life, family, and friends!
There will be a reception at the Cask and Cleaver Steakhouse located at 1333 University Ave. Riverside, CA 92507 at 1:30 p.m. on Friday July 11, 2014, following the services for Gwen.
Arrangements under the direction of Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, Riverside, CA.
