Headley Samuel Chambers, Sr. passed away peacefully at Riverside Community Hospital on March 15, 2023 at the age of 93. He was surrounded by his family.
Headley was born in Jamaica on July 23, 1929, to Earnest and Agnes Chambers. He is the 3rd of 10 children.
Growing up on a farm prepared him for life. Hard work was synonymous with Headley Chambers. From a young age he was indispensable helping his father on the ranch working long hours. Working the ranch taught him strong work value and how to mange people and finances. He knew he could do anything he put his mind to, and that is exactly what he did. At the age of 20, he left Jamaica headed to the United States which became his home since 1949.
Headley entered the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and quickly rose in rank until he was Chief Master Sergeant, in charge of Troop Programs, Training, Housing and Security on eight bases around the world.
He was exposed to so many things in the United States, including painting as he became a student at the Baum School of Art. Opera became his love and he listened to it every day.
Education was important to him as he left Jamaica without graduating from high school. In the United States he completed his high school degree and went on to college and achieved two Masters Degrees and a PhD.
One of his most noteworthy achievements was petitioning for the immigration of all nine brothers and sisters to come to America. He was proud to be the first generation of Chambers in America and helping his family.
After 30 years, Headley retired from the military service and led an active life of farming, wine-making and traveling.
Headley is preceded in death by his son, Headley Chambers Jr. and his six siblings, Eccle Murray, Stedman, Emeline Barnett, Ella, Stainton, and Eric.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara Chambers, daughter and husband Cheryl and Dan Murphy, daughter and husband Renee and Mike Ross, daughter and husband Sonya and Gary Ollison, and Nedra Chambers wife of Headley Chambers, Jr.; his three siblings, Mary Bair, Vina Shirley and Riggly; grand children Jillian Mundy, Tiffany Chambers, Brandon Chambers, Amanda Ross, Danielle Ross, Kelsey Murphy, Sean Ross, Shane Murphy, Sage Ollison, Skye Ollison; great-grandchildren, Ryan-Taylor, Camryn Mundy and Lola Rose Chambers.
