Our sweet Mom, Nancy, passed away at home, peacefully and in the loving arms of her family on July 23, 2025.
Nancy had a strong love of God that radiated in her love of family. She prayed for us daily and always encouraged us in our faith.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 4, 1938, to Ben and Bette Rotert, Nancy often shared fond memories of her childhood, living with her parents, grandparents (Joe and Sadie), and her dog, a red Irish Setter named Lady. When Mary Elizabeth was born in 1946, Nancy was overjoyed to finally have a baby sister!
Nancy graduated from Seton High School and married Michael Allison at St. Dominic Catholic Church in 1958. She soon gave birth to her three sons, Michael, Stephen, and Christopher. In 1967, the family moved across the country to Redwood City, California, and before long welcomed their baby girl, Amy. They settled in the Southern California town of Yorba Linda in 1972. Nancy embraced being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She counted her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear lifelong friendships to be among her greatest blessings.
Nancy’s first job was with her Dad at Kroger grocery in Cincinnati. She was a finalist in the Cincinnati Times-Star’s Junior Miss contest and also worked at Shillito’s department store downtown, sewing Mickey Mouse hats and selling them for $1. In 1978, Nancy entered the workforce, joining the California Auto Dealers Exchange as an auction coordinator, and later was hired as the Lead Receptionist for Honda Cars of Corona. She was proudly honored with the “Customer Service Rep of the Month” award from Equifax, and during this same period, Nancy worked four jobs simultaneously, including Nordstrom, Bullocks, and JCPenney, in addition to being everyone’s favorite Avon lady!
Nancy’s customer service expertise was welcomed at the Employment Development Department. She concluded her professional life as a volunteer for the Corona Public Library. But her number one job, she always said, was “being a mother.”
Nancy had a great eye for beauty and was interested in many things, including studying American Sign Language. She was a talented seamstress and made beautiful clothing, handbags, and quilts. Nancy took great joy in listening to music and had a vast appreciation for singers & songwriters of all kinds. She sent the best and most heartfelt cards to those she loved the most. She also enjoyed crafting, photography, shopping at flea markets for home decorations and gifts, and being the family archivist. Nancy loved a good hearty laugh and a great story; she created a warm, welcoming environment everywhere she went. She cherished family vacations and long cross-country train rides to Ohio, Indiana, Santa Fe, Chicago, and New York City.
