Paul L. Cassell, age 90, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 in Riverside. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Doris, his son Paul Jr., his brother Herbert Cassell, and his sister Helen Thorpe. Paul is survived by 2 daughters, Linda (John) Chamberlain and Susan (Rick) Champany; 2 grandchildren, Dan and Amanda Champany; 3 step grandchildren, Mike, Kevin (Tanya) and James (Bridget) Chamberlain; 5 step great grandchildren; his sister Adeline Weekly, his brother Carl Cassell, and his sister in law Bonnie (Walt) Flory as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Before his retirement Paul worked as an electrical engineer at the Jet Propulsion Lab for 26 years. While there he was involved in many space projects including Voyager 1 and 2. He had a lifelong interest in airplanes which led to getting his private pilot’s license. And in his retirement he actively pursued family genealogy.
In respect for Paul’s wishes, an informal remembrance for family and friends will be held in lieu of a traditional funeral in January 2016. A private burial at the Riverside National Cemetery will take place in mid-December.
