Ramona Sanchez attended schools in Mexico. In her youth, she was a dancer and sang at musical events. She worked at a doctors office before coming to the U.S. She worked as a self employed house keeper for over 30 years. Taught by her mother, she became a well versed cook in Mexican cuisine and eventually catered food to private clients in Newport Beach California. She was very proud of signature Green Chile burritos. She provided services to notable persons such as Actor John Wayne, Pilar Wayne, Senator Barry Goldwater Jr. and Actor Andy Devine. She became a U.S. Citizen in the late 70’s and had her own side business’ selling Amway, Princess house and Avon. She worked at Wilson Elementary School in Costa Mesa and Corona Del Mar High School in the cafeteria department for many years.
She was a devout Catholic, donating her time cooking in church kitchens at St. Joachim in Costa Mesa, Ca for fundraisers, like the Labor Day Street Fair, to raise money to buy turkey dinners for the needy on Thanksgiving or raise funds for renovation projects at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, Ca. She would visit local foods shops such a Lori’s Kitchen and would pick up day old food to distribute to the poor in her neighborhoods.
She taught catechism to children at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Santa Ana, Ca and would donate time helping the sisters at the Sacred Heart Sisters convent also in Santa Ana.
She loved the beach and enjoyed taking her kids to Balboa riding the ferry and grilling on the beach at Dunes in Newport Beach. She loved gardening, flowers and after taking a ceramics class at Orange Coast College, she loved creating things out of ceramic. She raised four kids on her own.
