Retta was born in Long Beach, California, on July 11, 1945. Shortly thereafter, her family relocated to a ranch in Pedley. There she became a lifelong horse lover! Her childhood was filled with happy memories which included owning three horses.
When she was a teen, she married her high school sweetheart. Ellis was her first child and two years later she gave birth to Rebecca. She became a single mom and devoted herself to raising her children and completing her education.
In 1977 she met the love of her life, Gilbert Cisneros. Gilbert was a loving husband and father who encouraged her educational goals. Gilbert supported Retta’s fulfillment of a Teaching Credential and a Master’s degree. Soon thereafter, Retta started her teaching career.
She was a beloved teacher for thirty years, teaching in the Val Verde, Riverside, and Alvord school districts. She had a gentle heart and went above and beyond meeting the educational needs of her students. She often was found at the Little Red School House buying whatever she knew her students would appreciate. She was a devoted, patient and caring teacher. The students loved “Mrs. C.”!
In 2010, Retta retired from teaching and began her retirement years traveling, being a caring mother and grandmother, and enjoying time with Gilbert.
Retta was preceded in death by her parents, Hilary and Rosalie Blevins. She leaves behind her loving husband Gilbert; son Ellis (Rebecca); daughter Rebecca (Kevin); step-daughters Anna and Becky (Anthony); sister June; brother Ken (Judy); grandsons Doug, Julian, Brayden, Daniel, David, and Philip; granddaughters Nicole, Brielle, Freja, and Jennifer; and ten great grandchildren. Retta will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
