It is with profound sadness that we say, Sabino Silva Jr passed away on August 6, 2020 at the age of 64 years old. There are so many things that can be said about our dad. Sabino was something else for sure, he could be inappropriate but funny with his sense of humor, make a whole room laugh, but also cower with just one look.
Sabino was born on March 1, 1956 in Mercedes, Texas to Sabino and Trinidad Silva and moved to Chino, CA in 1959. For our dad, growing up in Chino was the life, and we were always told stories about Chino and all of his adventures, especially his bachelor life. We established a familiarity with the city like it was a second home to us. While Sabino lived in Chino, he grew up surrounded by his parents and 9 siblings. He graduated from Chino High School in 1974. In 1984, Sabino moved to his bachelor pad in Ontario, CA with his longtime friend Johnny Aguilera, where he remained until he got married. Sabino met and married our mother Catherine Carolyn Cervantes in 1986, settled down in Corona to be near her family and life as the Silva’s began.
Sabino worked as a truck driver for 45 years with memorable companies: L&L Nursery Supply, Wonder Bread, Costco, and Corona-Norco Unified School District. Through work he made life-long friendships and long standing working relationships. He was an incredibly hard worker and never wanted to take a day off. No matter what job he was currently working, he made time for his family. His wife and kids were the most important thing to him.
In our family, Sabino was our everything. He was the strong one, the teacher and leader. As a family, it was hard to find out he was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer but he made the best out of the situation and took the necessary steps to healing. He was the shoulder to cry on, the one to talk sports with (especially when it came to the Minnesota Vikings), the one who wanted to know the chisme but also offer his two cents, and the one who made the tough choices and sacrifices. He did what he did for the good of his family. He had a great love for all of his nieces and nephews. So many memories can be shared about him because he was a genuinely incredible person. To almost all, he was known as Cookie or Uncle Cookie, and others Uncle Roach. No matter the name, he was the same fun loving jokester who gave you a hug, kiss, lecture, inspiration, wild story, and words of praise.
Sabino is survived by his wife of 34 years Catherine Carolyn Silva, son Sabino Erik Silva III, and daughter Jennifer Lena Silva. His siblings were Margaret, Gloria, Juana, Lily, Lupe, Jesus, Javier, David, and Richard.
Our family would like to thank all who have been a part of Sabino’s life. Over the years we have gotten to meet and get to know you personally. Thank you to all of our family, friends, and coworkers for your love, support and prayers during this difficult time.
