“We honor and cherish the life of a Proud iron worker and veteran, Sergio Contreras, who was a warm-hearted, loving, charismatic, and devoted father, fiancé, brother, son, and friend. Sergio sadly left this world so suddenly on July 18, 2024 at 35 years old. His departure comes as a great shock and a penetrating wound that is deeply felt by his entire family and community who knew and loved him.
Sergio was born on 9/11/1988 in Lynwood, Ca to Marian Guillen and Jorge Contreras and grew up in a loving home in Bell Gardens, Ca, until 2004 when the family relocated to Colton, Ca. After graduating from Colton highschool, Sergio followed in his older brother’s footsteps and joined the Naval force and traveled the world before settling in at Pt. Huemene. Sergio then decided to attend Riverside Community College to pursue a career in kinesiology, and shifted his passion and became an ironworker and joined the Iron Worker Local 433 where he was loved and developed genuine camaraderie amongst his fellow ironworker brothers and sisters. He remained part of the Ironworkers until his untimely passing. Sergio has left his mark throughout Southern California and Nevada, working on numerous projects such as the Metropolis in downtown Los Angeles, The Veterans Affairs in Long Beach, Raiders Training Facility, and the SOFI and Crypto arena. Sergio loved spending quality time with family and friends, was an avid Raiders fan, had a great passion for music and fishing, and playing his guitar by ear. Sergio was defined by living life to the fullest while recognizing and admiring the simplest things in life.
Sergio was an exuberant and kind hearted man and loved his family and daughter Leilani Rose with his entire being. Sergio is survived by his fiancé Sara Sinohui, daughter Leilani Rose Contreras, brothers Jorge and Omar Contreras, and father and mother, Jorge and Marian Contreras who raised him with unconditional love and support.
A Celebration of life services will be held on August 16th, 2024 at 2:45pm, at the Riverside National Cemetery to commemorate and honor the life of this wonderful man.”
