Tim Huff passed away on December 26, 2015, at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Edward, and her grandson, Justin. Tim led a long and active life and will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 19, 1920, to Anna Marie and Leroy Husman. She excelled in academics and athletics, winning the Cincinnati Junior Tennis Championship at age 16. Her graduation gift from high school was a trip to Cuba, beginning the first of many visits to countries around the world.
During World War II, she married Edward Huff, who she had known since elementary school. Ed was a flight cadet in the Army Air Force. After the war, she and Ed resided in Cincinnati until the outset of the Korean War, when Ed rejoined the Air Force. This was the start of numerous relocations for the next 10 years, beginning with postings to Frankfurt and Munich, Germany. While stationed there, Tim and Ed visited most of Europe, including Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Denmark, France, Spain, England and Scotland.
The family continued to live the military life with stations in Spokane, Washington (twice), and Ramsey, New Jersey. In between, there was a period where Tim took her family back to Cincinnati while Ed spent a year in Morocco and then finished his degree at the University of Louisville. In 1963, Ed received his orders to report to March Air Force Base in Riverside, California.
Tim remained a resident of Riverside until the end of her life. She raised her family of four boys, worked as an accountant, played golf and tennis, the latter until she reached her middle 80’s. She said she stopped playing only because all of her partners had passed away. She and Ed traveled even when they weren’t associated with the military, visiting all 50 states, the Canadian Provinces, Mexico, and several Far Eastern areas, including Hong Kong and Singapore.
But family and travel were only a part of her full life. She was always active. She volunteered for years personally and as an officer of the Mitchell Chapter of AMC Cancer Research helping to raise funds for cancer research. She even, along with her sons, hosted a charity golf tournament in Riverside for 9 years for AMC that resulted in donations of more than $150,000 to this group. One of her biggest joys, though, was working at the March Air Force Base Museum. She volunteered time there until her early 90’s, and it was always the first place she took her visitors when they came to Riverside. She also played Bridge at an expert level. She was a woman who loved life and tried to fill up every day.
When she became unable to live on her own at age 92, she moved to Faith, Hope and Love, a residential home in Riverside, refusing to leave the city where her husband was buried and her friends resided. The family wants to thank Brian and Chandra for every moment of safety and care they provided to their mother over the last 3 years.
Tim is survived by her four sons, Michael (Nancy), David (Lorraine), Thomas (Ilona) and Anthony, eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Acheson-Graham in Riverside with burial at the Riverside National Cemetery alongside her beloved Ed.
