She was born in Burley, Idaho, to Grant and Zina Short. She grew up in Emerson, Idaho on their family farm. She graduated from Minidoka County High School in Rupert, Idaho and later attended L.D.S. Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. Karen married her sweetheart Glen Harper in July of 1962 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They settled in Hunter, Utah to raise their three children Greg, Lane, and Cara. Glen died suddenly in 1980 and Karen continued to raise her family with love, faith and courage. She worked for the Granite School District for 23 years and loved her time and friendships with co-workers.
After she retired, she served a service mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the Magna Bishop Storehouse, which she loved. She was a kind, loving, and supportive mother and a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother. She made time to spend with each family member and cherished it. Mom greeted each day with a happy positive spirit. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading books, serving in her church callings, watching movies, going to lunch and spending time with family. She studied the gospel faithfully and strived to serve her Heavenly Father all her days. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
