LaPreal Gygi Hoopes

October 5, 1943 ~ July 7, 2016

If you are reading this it means I have left this earthly life to be with my sweetheart and eternal companion Burton, my son Scott, my parents, my brothers Tom and Russell,my sister Kathy Newbold, my brother-in-law Dave Jorgensen, as well as many other family and friends.

I hope I will be worthy enough to know my Savior when I meet Him and feel of His love.

I was born on Oct 5, 1943 in Lehi, Utah to goodly parents, Ray & Fae Gygi. I was the second of 10 children, survived by Carolyn Dyson (Arnold), Steven Gygi, Ginger Jorgensen, Colleen Goodfellow (Brian), Sharla Groves (John), Lynette Clements (Cris), sister in law Carol Gygi and brother in law Kim Newbold.

I married Burton Hoopes Feb 21, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. We were blessed with six children whom I pray will carry on our legacy. They are Jodi Hoopes, Susan Austin, Karen Maughan (Cortley), Diane Skougard (Ryan), Mark Hoopes (Becky), and son Scott (deceased). They have given us 14 grandchildren that I love dearly. I’ll be watching over you all.

My Heavenly Father has given me many opportunities to serve in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was a Young Women’s Pres, Primary Pres, Relief Society Pres, & Stake Primary Pres, as well as many other callings, but my favorite was and is that of a teacher. I love my ward family and appreciate all the blessings & prayers on my behalf, as well as acts of service by my family, ward family, neighbors, friends, and Solstice Hospice.

I have so many good friends that I can’t mention them all, but I have to mention and give special thanks to Deanne Fordham for always checking on me. I can’t forget my neighbors the Steve and Jane Evans for all they did for me. My friend & visiting teacher, Bonnie has always been willing to do anything for me and my family for many years.

My great joy will be to see my posterity striving to do what’s right. To my family & friends, I have loved you all for a lifetime, can’t wait to love you forever.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Hunter 17th Ward, located at 3745 S. 6400 W. West Valley City, UT, where a visitation will take place one hour prior to services as well as the evening before from 6 to 8 PM.
