Born on March 12, 1966, in Roanoke, Virginia, Joseph spent his life rooted in the community where he was born. Known affectionately as “Digger,” he built a reputation for being an affectionate, hardworking, and dedicated friend to all who knew him.
Joseph served honorably in the United States Navy, demonstrating a deep commitment to the service that would carry throughout every chapter of his life. After his military service, he found his professional home at Keen Transport Inc., where he worked as a driver for over 15 years. His colleagues there became more than coworkers, they were his brothers in the truest sense of the word.
Family was central to Joseph’s life. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Christopher Gray, Matthew Gray, and Courtney Gray; and by his cherished granddaughter Avery Alford. His extended family includes brothers, sisters, cousins, and many others whose lives were touched by his presence.
Among those mourning his loss are family members; Joseph W. Gray and wife Debra Henderlite (“little sis”), Paul Revere Jr., Carol King Gray, Glen Gray, Melissa Gray, Shelby Gray, Jennie Sue Gray, Robert Gray, Donald Gray, Betty Mauk Hauser and Gregg Hauser, Melinda and Terry. His circle of love also included special friends Bill and Tammy Vann and all his Keen Transport Inc. brothers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Nancy M. Gray and Douglas T. Gray; as well as dear family friends Virginia H., Nancy C., and many others not listed, but fondly remembered.
Joseph’s legacy is one of loyalty, his profession through years of dedicated work, and most importantly to the people around him, through steadfast friendship and love.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire the values he lived by every day.
