

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. James Lutheran Church, 3145 31st Avenue, Rock Island. The family will receive visitors from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Inurnment will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, with military honors bestowed by American Legion Posts 569 and 200 and VFW Post 1303. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
Doris was born on April 16, 1919 in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Lawrence Carr and Clara Louise (Hicks) Davidson. She served her country during World War II in both the Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. She married James William Love on August 15, 1947 in Charleston, WV. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Doris worked as a cataloger at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1989 following over 20 years of service. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island, and at one time had been a member of VFW Post 1303, Rock Island, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Lynda Love, Doris Ross, and Dennis Love, all of Rock Island; her grandson, Ronald Lee Ross, Jacksonville, IL; and many extended family members in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
In addition to her husband, her parents, a sister, Lorena Dennedy, and a brother, Harold Davidson, preceded her in death.
