John Tilden Ware Suggs Sr.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17th, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 12 noon until services Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 569, Milan, of which Mr. Suggs was a member.

John was born on June 4, 1920 in Crooked Creek, AR, the son of James T. and Mary J. (Stacy) Suggs. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Anna L. Hodge on February 24, 1940 in Harrison, AR. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2000.

John retired after working for many years as a mechanic for the City of Rock Island. He previously was employed by the former Rock Island Sash & Door Works. He enjoyed camping, working on motors and cars, and listening to “old” country music.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Proehl, Milan, and Betty Roberts, Rock Island; sons, John Jr. and James Suggs, both of Milan; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
