Myrtle June Cross

Visitation will be from 9:30 am. To 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, at Edgewood Baptist Church, 2704 38th Street, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to AMVETS. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

She was born January 30, 1932 in Warren, Michigan the daughter of the late Ernest & Ina (Chaffee) Bostic. June’s family later moved to southern Missouri where June spent most of her childhood. She graduated from Ava High School, Ava Missouri.

In 1949 June married William (Bill) White of Ava, Missouri and they had four sons: Eldon, Richard, William Jr., & Gary. During their early years of marriage Bill and June moved to Sycamore, Illinois. They separated in 1956 and divorced in 1958. In 1959 June married Donald Tittsworth of East Moline, IL. A fifth son, Craig, was born. Don died unexpectedly in 1968. In 1975 June married Dale Cross of Erie IL. She became the stepmother to Dale’s sons Raymond, Robert, & Ronald. Dale died in 2006.

At the time of her death, June was living in Maryville Tennessee with son Bill and his wife Cheryl. Prior to moving to Tennessee in 2011, June was a 55 year resident of the Quad City area.

June enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests over the years included crafting, cross stitch, reading, bird watching, flower gardening, putting together puzzles and listening to southern gospel music. She always looked forward to spending time with family and friends. She was fun, loving, kind and generous and opened her home and heart to everyone she met. She had a special bond with her Port Byron neighbors.

Like many people, June endured many difficult times in her life. She suffered the death of an infant child, the loss of a husband through divorce and two husbands and a stepson through death. Yet through it all her deep faith in a loving and all-knowing God carried her through. She lived her life as a Holy Spirit led person with love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, and patience.

During her residence in Maryville, TN she attended New Hope Baptist Church. June was a long time member of Edgewood Baptist Church Rock Island, IL and served in many capacities including women’s ministries, nursery help and as a ‘greeter’. She had previously been a Sunday school teacher and helped with children’s ministries during her membership at Sycamore Baptist Church in Rapid City, IL.

June is the mother of Eldon & Linda White -Smyrna, GA, William & Cheryl White - Maryville, TN, Gary & Pam White - Hampton, IL and Craig Tittsworth -Knoxville, TN and step mother of: Robert and Nancy Cross – Wilton, IA and Ronald Cross – Moscow, IA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters Wanda (Bob) Tapscott - Packwood, WA and Peggy Miller - Ava, MO.

She was preceded in death by her spouses and son Richard White, great granddaughter Crysta White, brother Eldon Bostic, sister Reatone Bostic and stepson Raymond Cross.
