Percy David Lipes

Percy David Lipes, age 84 of Bettendorf, IA died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Iowa Masonic Health Services. He formerly resided at Silvercrest Garner Farms, Davenport, IA and Milan and East Moline, IL.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. The family requests any Memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

David was born on February 7, 1928 in Rozetta Township in Henderson County, IL, the 4th son of Percy Sneed and Pearl Amanda (Norris) Lipes, and 10th of their 11 children. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Navy. David married Ruth J. Fleshman on March 24, 1948 in Burkeville, VA. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2004.

David worked as an Equipment Specialist for AMCCOM Headquarters at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1987 after 37 years and 7 months of Federal service. He was a member of the former First United Methodist Church (now Two Rivers United Methodist Church), Rock Island where he was an active member of the church choir and participated in many special events. In his free time, he also enjoyed his hobby of operating his shortwave (ham) radio.

Survivors (and spouses) include his sons, Steven M. (Sharon) Lipes, and Danny G. (Brenda) Lipes, both of Bettendorf; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, his parents, sisters, Vera Wasson, Mary Arthur, Ila Algren, Gladys Stegall, June Danner, and Ann Hughes, and brothers, Russell, Harold, William, and Edward Lipes preceded Mr. Lipes in death.
