Born Barbara Bond in Lexington, MA, she lived her first 40 years in the Boston area. Growing up around female family members who were nurses, she naturally chose a nursing career for herself. She attended Lawrence Memorial Hospital nursing school, and graduated in 1948 as an RN. Her classmates noted her talent for neatness. She worked at Symmes Hospital in Arlington, MA, and many years later worked nights on orthopedics at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL. She was the embodiment of the hospital’s motto that “caring is a way of life”.
She married Paul Nawrocki, raised three children, built a home in Indian Harbour Beach, FL, where she lived for 45 years. She loved flowers and gardening and was considered by friends to keep the cleanest house they had ever seen.
