Betty Koon Derrick

Betty Koon Derrick passed away at the age of 91 on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the Victoria Landing Assisted Living in Melbourne, Florida. She was born on December 17, 1931, in Irmo, South Carolina to the late Claude Franklin and Ruby Eva Koon of Columbia, South Carolina.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, I.H. (Mike) Derrick. She is survived by her four children: Karen (Doug) Hamilton, Robin (Robert) Luber, Mike (Natalie) Derrick and Stephen (Sally) Derrick as well as her five grandchildren: Kaitlyn Luber, Megan Derrick, Andrew, Grant, and Brooke Derrick.

Coming from Dayton, Ohio, in June of 1977 she moved to Brevard County. Being a retired home maker, Mrs. Derrick loved gardening and being out in her yard. She was a supportive in addition to caring military wife and a mother to her family, as their life led them overseas and home in the U.S. She was also a member of the Calvary Chapel of Melbourne, Florida.

A Visitation will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955. The funeral service will follow promptly at 10:30 AM. Betty’s final resting place will be at the Florida Memorial Gardens.
