

Carolyn Beth Simmons, daughter of Ulysses Simpson Grant King, Jr. and Doris Margaret Winther King, gently departed this life on March 6, 2022. She was born January 7, 1947 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In 1959, she moved to Melbourne, Florida where she graduated from Eau Gallie High School in 1964. During her high school days, she played clarinet and percussion with the band. She attended Orange Memorial Nursing School and graduated in 1967.
She married Jerry Simmons on March 6, 1967. She had two children, David and Julie. Together they lived in Virginia, Germany, Turkey and finally settled back in Florida after Jerry's retirement from the U.S. Army.
During her younger days, Carolyn owned a couple of horses and would love to go for a ride. Her love for horses never waned, but she never owned anymore after nursing school. She also had several cats during her life.
Nurse Carolyn worked at (Health First) Holmes Regional Medical Center where besides caring for numerous patients, she helped mentor many newly graduated nurses. She had a large, strong heart for caring. She retired in 2009, much to her relief.
Carolyn attended Lutheran Church of the Redeemer until it's closing, and then Hope Lutheran. She enjoyed singing in the choirs, and helping with the card ministry. She was very family devoted and loved sending emails and cards for every and all occasions. Her yearly Christmas poems were always relished by family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Besides her loving husband of 55 years and her two children, Carolyn leaves behind a younger sister, Donna , grandson Neil (Savanah), grandaughters Arianna and Logan, great grandson Josiah, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and friends she loved as family.
