Charles (also known as Charlie, Cheech, Chee Charles, and Paw Paw) was a long time member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish and was known for his involvement in the church, leading numerous men’s retreats, speaking to prisoners, and spreading God’s Word.
Charles is survived by his two daughters; Michelle Gerber and Cindy Sykes, son-in-laws; Harry Gerber III and James Sykes, his four grandchildren; Erica Gerber, Jenna Gerber, Brandi Gerber and Cameron Sykes, 10 nieces/nephews, and close friends; Pat and Ben O’Neal.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Diana Rauseo Carothers, parents; Ollie and Granville “Buster” Carothers, brother; Harlan Carothers and sister-in law; Fay Carothers, and cousins; Camille and Jan Musso.
A Cajun through and through, he loved his Louisiana heritage, a good bowl of his mom’s famous crawfish gumbo, and enjoying time playing cards with family and friends. He spent hours fishing anywhere he could find a watering hole or bowling strikes at the local bowling center. He loved his pets but none more than his little dog Peanut.
Our dad was a wonderful, hard-working, and caring man at heart. People often spoke of him as a sweet man and this was evident in his final days ensuring he complimented and thanked everyone who helped him. We’ll always remember his mischievous grin and boisterous laugh unlike any other. Though not with us any longer, we’ll always hold him close to our hearts and know he’s finally at peace and home with our Father, as well as many loved ones bound for continued laughs from above.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
