She was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 8, 1946. Her family traveled to England and then to France where she graduated from Toul American High School. After high school, she married Gary Barringer, and they had two children, Sharon and Michael. Michael is deceased. Sharon is living locally. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn and Diane, her brother John, her daughter Sharon, three grandchildren; Ashley, Jaclyn and Karen, three great grandchildren; Caden, Mariah, and Lily, and last but not least her husband of 46 years, Michael Stone.
For 50 years, Denise was a Registered Nurse and spent many years as an Intensive Care Unit nurse and during her career as a nurse, she worked in many locations and jobs. When she obtained her Masters Degree in Grief Counseling, she started the Bright Star Center for Grieving Children where she worked for several years.
Denise Stone was a 25-year life-time member of our Cocoa Beach Sail and Power Squadron and she was chaplain for many years. She painstakingly handled her duties and really engaged the membership at all our meetings and events.
She loved to travel and set a goal of seeing all 50 states. Our cruise to Hawaii in November 2023 accomplished that goal.
Denise’s other great passion was genealogy. She spent thousands of hours researching and documenting her family history. Her family tree looked more like a forest! Denise was also an avid bird watcher.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM at The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Denise's memory may be made to The American Cancer Society.
